How to Wear Springs 3 Hottest Trends

How to Wear Springs 3 Hottest Trends

These trendy looks will have you feeling confident and looking fresh!

How to Wea Springs 3 Hottest Trends

I want to say spring has sprung but, the truth of it is, it’s still in the far off distance. Yes, we may still be scraping ice off our car windshields and wearing jackets over our jackets, but that doesn’t mean we can’t start daydreaming of lighter colors, layers, and clothing in general. I had the privilege of attending NYFW last fall, where I got a sneak peek of some of the upcoming trends. It’s always so interesting to see what’s going to be the next “new,” particularly when the designers are transitioning from winter and resort lines into spring and summer. I fell in love with a few of the styles, so I wanted to share them, and a few other looks predicted for spring 2020. Here’s a little insight into how to wear these upcoming trends.

Spring Trend No. 1: Red

Such a small word for such a big, beautiful color. This spring, get RED-y for red. And not just one shade of it… Different versions that range from rust to poppy. Designers such a Zimmerman and Ulla Johnson used the color in stripes and patterns where Self-Portrait and Cinq a Sept took the tone and created stunning solids. I have always loved red, but been wary about how loud it can be, meaning I chose to wear it in less conservative settings. With the shades being more bright than bold, this color trend has made itself super versatile and more fun than fiery. Mix red with some light khaki or beige for a less formal look or try it with a pop of pink for a fun night out.

Spring Trend No. 2: Lace Details

In almost every show I attended, there was at least one piece with some special details of lace. Lace, which forever has been associated with lingerie, has finally found itself a happy medium point between sexy and soft. As the detail on a hem or sleeve, it adds some interest to an outfit without crossing the line. Jonathan Simkhai worked this trend to it’s fullest in his gorgeous satin skirts and dresses with lace trims. Try this trend in a sleeveless top and jeans for running around town or in a satin midi dress, perfect for a night out with your main man.

Spring Trend No. 3: Leather on Leather

Music to this girl’s ears. Leather is by far my favorite fabric, so now they’re telling me I can wear it head-to-toe!? I am silently fist-pumping in the kitchen, high fiving my children in the playroom, and skipping down the hallway of my home. YES, I will happily work leather on leather. This trend plays function, in that it adds some warmth when the weather can still be a little unpredictable, but it is also super chic and classic … when done the right way. I found a long sleeve leather top with coordinating midi skirt at Balmain that screamed classy and confident. And I love a leather jumpsuit (by a few different designers, including Zimmerman) because it screamed cool. Bonus: With a push on sustainability and animal rights, most leather fashion pieces are leaning toward vegan, which is both fashionable and friendly.

While there are so many other fun trends to look forward to, these are the three I will be trying out this spring. I can’t wait to play with the different shades of red in my daytime dress, test out the lace details in a timeless top, and live happily ever after in my leather on leather. Elle is predicting a season of big pants, short shorts, and prominent color showing up in bright yellows. Here’s more of what I spotted and loved. Keep Reading –>

3 Chic Hair Hacks for Dirty Hair Days

3 Chic Hair Hacks for Dirty Hair Days

These three hairstyles will refresh second-day hair and beyond!

3 Chic Hair Hacks for Dirty Hair Days These three hairstyles will refresh second-day hair and beyond!

I don’t remember when everyone finally agreed that daily hair washing was a bad idea and would dry out your hair, but I would like to commemorate that date in history. For this busy blonde, washing my hair is a CHORE. Between chasing the kids, running the household and taking calls and meetings all day, my hair doesn’t get the love it deserves. And as I get older, that lack of love shows, so I’m always looking for easy things I can do to give my hair a quick refresh. Enter these three chic hair hacks for dirty hair days, all updos that make me look presentable, even in steamy South Florida.

How do you hide greasy hair without washing it?

Before I share a few of my favorite pulled-back looks, let’s start with the basics of any updo:

1. Slightly Dirty Hair

Your hair will hold an updo best if it’s 1-day dirty. It shouldn’t be super dirty, but you do want the moisture in your hair to balance. If it’s freshly washed and squeaky clean, it will be too “slick” and will fall out of the look too easy.

2. Add A Little Mousse

When you do wash your hair (the day before your updo), use product in the roots to help create texture and hold. A mousse is great for this.

3. Get Wavy

Having some waves and hairspray in your hair will help almost any updo look effortless and hide any tiny flaws. 😉

These three hairstyles will refresh second-day hair and beyond!

Here are a few easy styles that you can do at home with some bobby pins and hair ties. Maybe toss on a scarf when you can for extra style. You’ll look instantly chic and pulled together!

The Chignon

This YouTube video by Alex Gaboury is an excellent tutorial on the chignon. I love this because it’s fast and easy, works with medium and long hair, and even when it’s messy, it still looks 100% chic and elegant.

The Low Bun

Like the chignon, I like the low bun. When a style is low (and not piled on top of your head), it instantly looks sophisticated and chic. Alex makes great hairstyle tutorials (she has a ton of hair, but these definitely work with shorter hair, too!).  I love this one

The Top Knot

We all have those days where we need something less “fancy” and more “cute, easy, fun”; this is where the top knot comes in. The key to a good top knot is only putting the elastic over half of your pony for the first run. It will make a lot more sense when you watch this quick video by Jena Wright about her easy, 2-minute messy bun.

These easy updos are the perfect hair hacks to update your style, all while protecting hair from the daily damage washing can cause. And let’s face it, that protection is key to keeping our hair looking youthful as we age. Sometimes I think how funny it is that we update our style, our homes, and even our fragrance as we move from our 20’s to our 30’s and 40’s, but somehow we think we can use the same shampoo, conditioner, and self-care routines. Just as your life evolves over the years, your beauty routine should as well. Here are the six best ways I’ve found to refresh your hair care and beauty routine as you age. Next Page –>

Your Questions Answered

How do you hide greasy hair without washing it?

  1. Dry Shampoo

Don’t wait until your hair starts to feel greasy, instead use dry shampoo the first night you go to bed without washing. Dry shampoo not only keeps your hair feeling clean longer, but it also adds texture, which –as discussed above, is great for styling updos!

If your hair gets oily fast, try this dry shampoo from IGK, is specifically designed for oily hair and scalp.

   2. Change Up Your Look

I live in humid Florida, so an updo that gets my hair off my neck is a delight. But if you still prefer to wear your hair down, consider parting it a different way. Then just spray in a little dry shampoo at the roots, and you’re good to go.

   3. Dry-Blowdry It

As with any heat products, use with caution and maybe a touch of heat protectant. Run your blowdryer through your dry, unwashed hair to dry out some of the oil and revive the body.

How To Wear Brown

How To Wear Brown

How To Wear Brown Sneaky, Subtle and Sophisticated: Brown Has Taken Over My Closet

Sneaky, Subtle and Sophisticated: Brown Has Taken Over My Closet

Maybe it happened in the middle of the night. Sneaky and quiet. But somehow, brown is the unassuming color that has snuck into my closet. I mean, it’s not like it was ever uninvited. There was no “keep out, brown” sign. It just wasn’t a color I thought looked good on me: a pale blonde. And with so many bright and beautiful colors to compete with, anything in brown was never the top runner when I had saved enough money to buy a new item. So, if you asked me how much brown I owned, I would probably respond with “not much” or “you know, it’s just kind of a blah color on me.” It’s funny how our minds can convince us of something that isn’t a reality. What is a reality is that from tops to leather pants, to heels to crossbody bags – my closet is now close to 50% brown. I’m officially into brown! It’s time to start acknowledging and appreciating its worth in style. It’s time to start thinking of brown as the new black.

Brown can be used as a base to set the stage for other colors, but also a color that can stand on its own. Unlike its fellow neutral friends (black and white), it has so many different shades – chocolate, beige, tan, camel, nude, to name a few. At least one shade of brown complements almost every color in the rainbow. I love mixing camel with a bold orange or a jewel-tone. I love mixing dark brown with lighter shades, such as a soft yellow or pale pink. And while there could be an argument on whether nude is in the brown family or not, I see it as a member and would wear nude with bright red or cobalt blue.

Brown has taken over my closet, here's how I style it.

What I found recently is that I love mixing shades of brown. With so many options, you don’t even have to introduce a different color if you don’t want to (and if you do, I love keeping the tone neutral with a subtle cream). Light and dark head-to-toe brown look is not just a luxurious and classic look, its wearable season round. The current safari trend is the perfect example, as we head from winter style to resort and spring.

The Eyes Have It: Best Practices for Daily Under Eye Care

The Eyes Have It: Best Practices for Daily Under Eye Care

The Eyes Have It: Best Practices for Daily Under Eye Care

It can feel overwhelming when it comes to eye creams and under-eye care – I'm here to help.

If you ever want to take a temperature check on your sleep, diet, hydration, and just about every indicator of health…just look down. Not too far down – just under your eyes. See that? 😉 If you’re anything like me, you might see wrinkles, dry skin, and discoloration. That delicate skin is no joke! It’s is a mirror to every layer of your wellness. And winter doesn’t help. The dry, cold air, and harsh elements…yikes!

All is not lost. The good news is that beauty brands see this need for daily under-eye care and have come to the rescue. Not only are they coming out with more and better eye creams, but they’re also unveiling incredible eye masks that take hydration to a new level. It can feel overwhelming when it comes to eye creams and under-eye care – I’m here to help. This is my list of eye care tips, products, and best practices to keep those peepers looking perky and smooth!

Nighttime Routine for Under-Eye Care

Step 1. Prevent premature fine lines and wrinkles with a gentle eye makeup remover.

Step 1. Prevent premature fine lines and wrinkles with a gentle eye makeup remover.

It starts with makeup removal: eye makeup is hard to remove, and you need to do it right. I love micellar water for this. It’s gentle and makes eye makeup removal a breeze. Because it’s mild, you can go easy on your under-eyes and spare your delicate skin the pulling and rubbing.

Step 2. Soothe your eye area with a nourishing mask that hydrates and brightens while it firms.

Okay, now you have a clean face, but don’t lather on your products just yet — Head into the kitchen where you keep your eye masks in the fridge (yes!). I love to pop on chilled eye masks for 10-15 minutes while I finish tidying up the house for the night or answer one last email. The reason I do my masks before my product is that I want the eye mask serum to have direct contact with my skin, and if I have a product on my face, the eye masks slip down.

Step 3. Apply your eye cream, BEFORE your face serum and moisturizer.

Ahhh. Your eyes already feel brighter, right? Okay, now you can add your eye cream. I like to do eye cream first, then my face serum and moisturizer. The reason I do eye cream first is that I want the most potent product the closest to my skin.

When it comes to mornings, I also love using my eye masks for a quick lift. Pop them on in the morning (no need to wash your face it should be clean from the night prior, you can splash some warm water on it). Then go ahead with your typical daytime skincare routine. If you get into a habit of treating yourself to chilled eye masks once or twice a day, you will see smoother and more moisturized skin. And who doesn’t love a little treat?

Eye Masks I Love

Tarte SEA Pack Your Bags Undereye Patches

A set of four vegan-friendly, hypoallergenic treatment gel under-eye patches for youthful-looking eyes. An excellent solution for dark circles, fine lines, wrinkles, and dryness. Soothe, hydrate, depuff and illuminate your eyes with jellified algea and coconut oil, all while smoothing the appearance of fine lines.

Peter Thomas Roth Cucumber De-Tox Hydra-Gel Patches

Help awaken the appearance of tired eyes with these cooling eye contour gel patches, which help reduce the look of puffiness, dark circles, fine lines, and wrinkles. Cucumber extract helps naturally detoxify, nourish, hydrate, and de-puff the look of skin. Allantoin, chamomile, and aloe help soothe and calm the skin’s appearance. Niacinimide, a multifunctional ingredient, helps to improve the look of skin tone and texture. Hyaluronic acid, glycerin, and hydrolyzed collagen deliver rich hydration to help skin appear plumper, improving the look of tone and density. Caffeine and arnica help diminish the appearance of dark circles. These soothing and refreshing patches help leave the delicate eye contour area looking visibly younger, brighter, and revitalized.

Wander Beauty Bagage Claim Rosegold Eye Masks

Experience three innovative layers of luxury with Baggage Claim Rose Gold Eye Masks. The rose gold foil helps retain heat and prevents evaporation, allowing the maximum amount of serum to easily sink into your skin. The middle layer is elastic so the mask will not slip off while you’re wearing it. The third is a cellulose fiber that condenses and delivers key ingredients efficiently, giving you all the skin-loving benefits you need. Hyaluronic acid delivers hydration to help diminish the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Aloe leaf extract and lavender oil offer a cooling effect, while soothing and calming the under-eye area.

But it’s not just your eyes that are looking for to be brightened and firmed. Over the past few months, I have noticed a drastic change in my skin. I am pretty sure I have hit a hormonal hill … Ugh. My face has gone from soft and dewy to rough and dry. Maybe it’s not hormones. Maybe it’s my environment or diet? I’m on a mission to sort it!

  1. Have you been exfoliating
  2. Serums have become the new “it” thing the past few years, but…
  3. Ever feel like your skin needs a “finishing touch?” Continue Reading…
