The Chic List: The Spa at the Four Seasons at the Surf Club

There is nothing better than treating yourself to a visit to the spa. Whether you’re with your girlfriends, your mother or gloriously by yourself, it’s a time to take a deep breath, unwind and soak in some pampering. Going to the spa is almost always an experience that is, in some way, “just what you are looking for” – the spa may not have the serene environment you crave, or the top product lines, or the best service, but you likely always walk away with at least one “check” off that list and, more importantly, feeling relaxed and clear-headed.

So, rewind to this weekend when I was on a girls’ trip with some of my best high school girlfriends. We had an amazing few days together – some shopping, delicious food, and lots of laughs – but what stood out most was our time at the Spa at the Four Seasons Hotel at the Surf Club in Surfside, Florida. We were together, which is what mattered most and for three moms of two and three children respectively, just having some uninterrupted time to talk and relax made the visit amazing. But, it is not often that I walk out of a Spa “experience” thinking “this is the most amazing Spa I have ever been too.” And this time, I did.

The Spa at the Four Seasons at the Surf Club sits on the second floor of the pristine hotel, just high enough to get a glimpse of the beautiful Atlantic Ocean. Walking up the steps to the reception area, the front desk attendants warmly greeted us for our services. They knew who we were without us telling them our names because the Spa is quite exclusive and intimate (an immediate plus). The bespoke product lines were displayed, which immediately had me sold. I have always been a huge fan of Susanne Kaufman, an amazing organic skincare line, but they carried Biologique Rechereche, which is a luxury line not often found in Spas.

As we journeyed back to the changing room, the vibe was just what one would want from a Spa – clean, fresh, simple, peaceful. The décor is beautiful and specific, but not overdone. A sauna and steam room were available for use. Cool towels set over ornate bowls of ice, with beautiful orchid blooms surrounding them were available for guests to decompress, a finishing touch I found thoughtful.

After changing, we were brought back to the waiting lounge. Cushioned chaise lounges were available and spaced apart with delicate dividers, to ensure peace and privacy. These were available to guests to relax before and after treatments, with assorted teas, frozen grapes and more offered if you were needing a pick-me-up.

Once back to the treatment room, I had a brief conversation with my Esthetician, then got comfortable. I chose to have one of Biologique’s Signature Facials, as I was somewhat familiar with the line and heard amazing things about their products. My specific Esthetician had worked with the skincare line for over 20 years, which does not happen often, particularly in hotel spas. She was very talented, and also very informative (which was incredible because I asked a lot of questions!).

As we left the Spa, I purchased a few of the products that I had been looking to incorporate into my skincare routine. My Esthetician was honest about what I needed and at no point did I feel like I was being “sold,” which can be super irritating to me. It was one of those experiences that I kind of wanted to give her a hug, she was so amazing. But, I refrained – lol – and decided the best thing to do, being local, was to book another appointment with her in 6 weeks.

Miami may be in your back yard, or it may be a destination you have been eyeing for your next girls’ trip, romantic getaway or solo escape. Whichever it may be, if you are looking for a place to indulge and unwind, book your treatment here. I promise you will leave feeling refreshed, with great skin and positive energy …

And bonus, the hotel has one of the prettier Champagne bars I have ever seen, which every girl should have during a day of pampering! xx♥

The Beauty of Bermuda

For some reason, Bermuda has always been a “safe” place for me. Who knows why and who knows how that feeling came to be, but I imagine it had to do with a childhood memory. Living on the coast of Maine, Bermuda was an easy tropical getaway for my family. It felt like the Bahamas, but was a quick two-hour flight from Logan Airport. When my husband and I purchased a home in Maine a few years back, Bermuda became our quick summer destination, and the safe place became even safer.

Landing in this little slice of heaven delivers one of the more picturesque views ever. Tropical waters call for brilliant blues and greens and the island – which from the air looks like the size of Laguardia airport – seems serene, untouched and everything a low-key couple could dream of.  Once an English colony, the mannerisms of the Brits still exists on this little island and for me, there is nothing more attractive than some English class.

My husband and I have become true devotees to Rosewood resorts and the Rosewood at Tucker’s Point is on-par with our expectations of the intimate, upscale hotel line. We are going on our fourth trip to this particular Rosewood hotel and there is a reason why we keep coming back. Familiar faces always greet you upon our arrival, asking to lend a hand and welcoming you to their beautiful abode. The lobby breathes the island’s persona – beautiful, bold, clean but unpretentious. This visit, we were delighted to find that they had added a small “gin tasting” bar off of the lobby. “Umm, OK” said the sans-kids couple (did I mention we left the kiddos behind for this escape?). But back to our arrival and check-in, I have never had to wait for a room. They have always been waiting on us.

Everyone’s idea of “down time” is different, so it may be a hard sell to convince you to travel like we do. We like to stay put. We like to enjoy the resort. And, Tucker’s Point is just the place to do that. With three pools, a beach club with private beach access, a wonderful spa, over five different bars and restaurants, for the couple that is constantly on the go, this is a no-brainer. Faced with a day of sunshine? Hit their gorgeous (but very hilly, like take a cart) golf course, take a private tennis lesson, charter a sailboat or just do what we did and take the latest Ken Follet (or in my case, Fall Bazaar magazine) and plop down under an umbrella and enjoy some fruity drinks. Raining like crazy? How about a game of life-size chess, watch a soccer game in the bar or  … Just. Do. Nothing.

But, if staying in is not your thing, don’t be turned away. Bermuda offers something for everyone. From private snorkeling, to top-notch golf, to a truly local, fun food and beverage scene, I promise, you will not get bored. Feeling adventurous? Rent a scooter and buzz around the island on the “wrong” side of the road (just let me know if you do that, so I stay off the roads that day). In need of some retail therapy? Have a walk around downtown Hamilton. And lastly, what we found out this trip is that the island (and resort) is super, duper kid friendly … IF you want it to be, which all you couples with kids understand ☺

So, booking your next 3-4 nighter and struggling for something that is both convenient to get to, but also feels like it’s a world away? The Rosewood at Tucker’s Point – Bermuda – will not do you wrong. You’ll enjoy a slice of heaven and a breath of fresh air all at the same time.
