Beauty Beyond Your 20’s

The Six Best Ways to Refresh Your Beauty Routine as You Age

Blonde woman with beautiful skin.

It’s funny how we update our style, our homes, and even our fragrance as we move from our 20’s to our 30’s and 40’s, but somehow we think we can use the same shampoo, conditioner, skincare, and makeup throughout the decades. Hard stop, my friends. Just as your life evolves over the years, your beauty routine should as well. Here are a few quick pointers for refreshing your beauty game:

Hair Care Updates

As you age, your hair changes. It loses its natural shine, you’re probably seeing grey hairs and coloring your hair more often, it can get dry easily, and you might even notice it’s not as thick as it once was. This is all normal, but with a few changes to your routine, you can slow down the changes you see in your hair.

Shampoo + Conditioner

ONE.

Do your research and find the right shampoo and conditioner for your hair type. As I’ve gotten older, I’ve found I need more moisture and started doing a weekly hair mask like this one from Vernon François.

TWO.

Shampoo less often and use dry shampoo to refresh. Washing your hair is damaging.

THREE.

Get frequent gloss treatments to keep the shine.

Skincare Updates

This could be its own entire blog. As you age, your skin changes. We all know this. Again, do your research for your unique skin considerations, but here are a few starting points.

Sun Damage

FOUR.

Whatever you do to your face, do it to your neck and chest as well. Treat it all as the same skin. Your 30’s and 40’s are when you start seeing the effects of sun damage. There are some amazing products out now that are formulated just for your neck and chest like this one from Perricone MD.

Texture

FIVE.

Retinol can help your skin maintain its texture and “plump” look as you age. This might be the time to add some retinol products like this one from Sunday Riley into your routine.

Day vs. Night

SIX.

In your 30’s and beyond, you want to have different skincare routines for daytime vs. nighttime. Daytime is all about protection from the UV rays and environmental damage, and night is all about regeneration and treatment

You’ll notice other changes as you age, including how your body responds to certain foods, how your skin reacts to some chemicals, and how your hair takes color. Your body is a living, breathing organism, and it changes every year. Your job is to listen to what it’s telling you, do your homework (the best new products and brands are coming to market every day), and adjust along the way. You’re gorgeous at any age.

My Top 5 2020 Travel Destinations

Whether it's a family vacation or a girl's trip, these are the best places to travel to in 2020.

Fashionable woman traveling to New York.

Wow – 2020 is just around the corner! 2019 was a year of adventure. We embraced some quality family time with our incredible trip to The Rosewood at Baha Mar, and some relaxing couples travel with our kid-free getaway to The Rosewood at Tucker’s Point in Bermuda. Needless to say, we’re Rosewood people.

Rosewood Baha Mar best places to travel in 2020
With so many activities in or out of sea, the Rosewood Baha Mar was the perfect spot for our little family trip.
The Rosewood Tucker's Point
My husband and I have become true devotees to Rosewood Resorts and the Rosewood at Tucker’s Point is on-par with our expectations of the intimate, upscale hotel line.

As we look ahead to 2020, I’m already getting excited about the places we’ll go next. I love a good mix of family, couples, and girlfriend getaways. From a quick roadtrip, to the other side of the world (literally), I’m so excited to start planning my 2020 travel. Here are the top 5 spots on my list. Please leave a comment and tell me where you’re going next year – maybe we can inspire each other!

Best Family Destinations

Explore the Cape

Taking it back to my New England roots, Cape Cod is on our 2020 family travel list. I’m always on the hunt for a place that blends luxury, relaxation, and plenty of activities for the kids. Chatham Bars Inn hits every mark. This spot is best for kids 2-10 years old because it has a great mix of kids programming, and there’s also a new Whydah Pirate Museum nearby. I love it for me and the hubs because it has that quintessential seaside luxury that we gravitate towards, and the spa is renowned. Visiting Chatham Bars Inn? Be sure to add these to your itinerary:

  • A whale-watching cruise
  • Shadow the Atlantic White Shark Conservancy as they tag great whites along the coast
  • Lobster rolls and ice cream, of course!

Explore Paris

Paris, for kids? Yes!! Exposing our kids to culture and exploration is important to us, and The City of Lights has treasures for the entire family. I love this hotel because they have an Art Concierge that can tailor art tours to all ages. The hotel even has Parisian movie nights in their private theater. Beyond the classic places: The Eiffel Tower, boating along the Seine, fighting the crowds at The Louvre (can the museum please ban cellphones so people can actually appreciate the art? Okay, rant over), there are countless family activities in Paris. While you’re noshing on fromage, be sure to add these travel experiences to your family-friendly Parisian adventure:

  • the puppet shows at Jardin du Luxembourg
  • visiting the Sunday pet market on the Ile de la Cité
  • take a French cooking class

Crazy idea? Travel + Leisure just named Australia their destination of the year. Am I a complete crazy person to think about taking the entire fam down under? Tell me about your Australia travels in the comments.

Best Places for Romantic Retreats

Bet you didn’t expect to see a Montana ranch on my romantic retreats list. But this isn’t your average ranch. The Resort at Paws Up, a Relais & Chateaux property, blends incomparable luxury with unspoiled wilderness. When the hubs and I need to get away, sometimes retreating to nature– but in a way that still feeds my love of luxury, is just the ticket. I might go for the Couples Spa Package to add some wellness to our outdoor adventure that includes horseback riding and fly fishing. When you book, be sure to add travel experiences like these to your trip:

It’s no secret that we love Mexico. Something about the ocean air, peaceful beaches, and incredible cuisine call us back again and again. Viceroy Los Cabos caught my eye for 2020 because of its stunning, modern design, cinematic views, pure white buildings, and elevated walkways. Everything about this hotel screams luxury, clean lines, and elevated travel. I can see just us sipping margaritas and reading books for hours. Well, we might sneak off the spa for a few hours, too. Best Places for girlfriend getaways

Ah, girl time. I need so much of it and cherish every minute. This year, I’m eyeing Austin. I need a location that works for everyone and is quick to get to. A wellness resort is perfect for my crew – we love to soak in spa services, eat healthy food, and have lots of firepits and wine time to catch up. This resort also offers all-inclusive packages, which makes group travel so easy. The best part of this getaway? It’s a 30-minute water taxi ride from Downtown Austin where we can kick up our boots for a night of live music and some incredible bar-b-que. Of course, you have to get a massage and try their signature Age-Defying Laser and Antioxidant Facial. Want to get a little woo-woo? Try these treatments:

  • Honoring Transformation: This session blends dialogue and ceremony and is supportive for moving through times of change. Whether it be celebrating a milestone, letting go of the past, including less than optimum habits, or reclaiming and uniting parts of yourself, this session is helpful for successfully navigating life’s transitions.

  • Crystal Bowl Sound Immersion: Join Julie Haber, Inspiration & Integrative Wellness Specialist and Crystal SoundEnergy Practitioner™ for a unique, mesmerizing experience. In this amazing sensory immersion, the crystal bowls are placed directly on the body, allowing sound frequencies to aid in addressing any imbalances by creating an environment conducive for a renewed sense of peace, relaxation, insight, inspiration, and healing.
Lake Austin Spa and Resort: Top Girls Trip Destination 2020

I’d love to hear from you. Where are you going in 2020? What hotels and destinations do you love? Here’s to another year of family time, exploration, and reconnecting with the people we love the most.
