Keeping Your Hair and Makeup Sanity: The Mom Edition
All Day Makeup in 10 Minutes
As a mom of two little ones, I feel like I’m always on the move from car to house to kitchen to living room to car… Sitting down sounds like an absolute luxury at this point. I do get to have fun, though, when it comes to dressing in my favorite designers and shooting photos for my site. I know I’m not the only mom who feels this way, so I thought you might like to hear from my hair and makeup team. After all, who knows more about styling someone who’s jumping up every 5 minutes than they do? So, from the lovely ladies of Fedeinsieme, here are some tips on keeping my hair and makeup looking fresh on days when I barely sit still.
YOUR ALL DAY MAKEUP IN 10 MINUTES
FROM JACLYN ACCETTA
If you are a busy woman who is looking for a quick makeup routine for every day, here are a few products and tips to help you get out of the house looking awake!
ONE. MOISTURIZE
That goes for face and eyes. I usually recommend doing this right before you brush your teeth in the morning. This way, the product has a few minutes to settle into your skin.
TWO. BROWS BROWS BROWS
Shaping and lightly filling in your eyes can change your whole look within seconds. You can use a pencil or just an eyeshadow with an eyebrow brush. Start at your arch and fill to the end of the brow, then using light strokes work your way to the inner brow towards your nose.
THREE. MASCARA
everyone has their personal favorite, so choose what formula works best for you and simply apply to the lashes on the outer corner of your eyes to give a little volume and length.
FOUR. FOUNDATION + CONCEALER
Take your time to shop around and choose the best foundation for your skin. Depending on the formula, you can apply with your fingers, beauty blender, or brush.
FIVE. HIGHLIGHT, BRONZE + GLOW
Look for a palette that has a shadow, bronzer, blush, and highlight. Tarte has many palettes for this, like their Clay Play Eye and Cheek Palette Vol. II.
- Apply the highlight just above the cheekbone.
- Apply the bronzer on and just below the cheekbone, as well as the forehead/hairline.
- Apply blush on the apple of the cheek and lightly across the nose.
SIX. LIPS
Urban Decay’s Vice Lip Chemistry is incredible! It gives your lips color, hydration, and lasts for up to 5 hours.
SEVEN. SETTING SPRAY
The last step is setting your look with a setting spray.

FAST + EASY HAIR TIPS
FROM TRACY AHERN
ONE. CLEANSE + CONDITION
The first thing is to make sure you are using the right shampoo and conditioner for your hair. Most people don’t realize, but shampoo weighs your hair down. Depending on your hair type, you need to be sure to use professional brands for the best results. I personally have thin hair, so I find L’Oréal Professional Series Expert B6 + Biotin Inforcer works best for me.
TWO. STYLE
- While your hair is still wet, use Paul Mitchell Sculpting Foam from root to ends.
- Purchase a WetBrush. It saves your hair from breakage and works on wet, damp and dry hair. Also, VERY affordable.
- Revlon came out with a One-Step Volumizer Hair Dryer that will give you the look of a professional blow out, without having to leave your house. Just be careful it can get very hot and damage your hair if you're not careful, so be sure to use a heat protectant.
Rock a Pony Like a Pro
If you’re in a rush, you can always throw it in a ponytail, but not too tight. Use the same steps above, blow dry just the front of your hair around your face, and put the rest up. Be sure to tie it with a great scrunchy; they’re back in. Promise.
Pro-Tip: Try Not to Wash Your Hair Every Day
- Daily washing can dull shiny hair.
- The more you wash, the faster your color will fade.
- From a styling perspective, dirty hair is easier to style.
Got a little extra time? Get luminous skin without looking greasy!
ONE. PREP
Skin prep is the first step to all makeup applications. Using a hydrating moisturizer daily, like Clinique Moisture Surge, is a good start. If you are very dry regularly, an oil primer (try Smashbox Oil Primer) will do wonders and also cut the time down in your skin prep/makeup process. If you are generally oily, a light yet hydrating primer, like Lancome Prep and Hydrate, will give you the dewy, luminous skin look without making you feel as if you want to take a tissue you to your face mid-day.
TWO. FOUNDATION
Go for a foundation that is medium coverage. Use a wet beauty blender when applying to achieve that dewy look.
Combination to Oily Skin: try Anastasia Beverly Hills Luminous Foundation.
Dry Skin: try Nars Radiant Longwear Foundation. It is a long-lasting foundation that still has a weightless feel about it.
If you prefer a medium to full coverage, try Tarte Shape Tape Foundation. When following the previous prep steps, it still gives the luminous appearance, while maintaining its coverage.
For those who are more of a tinted moisturizer lover, but feel they are reapplying more than they wish…Bareminerals Complexion Rescue or Nars Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer will most likely become your new favorites.
THREE. CONCEALER
Concealer is a must for this luminous makeup look. Start with an eye cream, then apply your concealer. My personal favorite is Tarte Shape Tape. It works for all skin types, corrects and conceals while still lasting all day.
FOUR. HIGHLIGHT +CONTOUR
Tarteist PRO Glow to Go Highlight & Contour Palette will finish off this luminous look. First, apply with a small fluffy brush the highlighter right above your cheekbone, then apply the contour using another small brush just below your cheekbone, starting from your hairline downwards following the cheekbone.
Even on the move, you can look amazing every day with just a few minutes and a good plan.
