The Health Benefits of Quality Sleep

Ready to Get Healthier? Sleep on It…
Blonde-woman-sitting-bed

I feel like as a woman; I’m constantly reading and talking about health and wellness. Do men talk about it as much as we do?? Based on the men in my life – nope. There are countless articles out there about nutrition, workouts, and vitamins, but honestly, there aren’t enough about the importance of sleep as it relates to overall health and wellness. Just get two bad nights of sleep in a row and tell me how you’re feeling from head-to-toe.

I’m not a sleep expert, but I have become curious about the importance of sleep as it relates to mental and physical wellness. As a mom to two young ones, I know for a fact that my sleep health impacts not only how I look and feel, but also my mood, patience and overall “roll with it” vibe. The benefits of good sleep are countless. Sleep affects how your body regulates hormones, how you burn calories, memory, mood, and soooo much more.

After a little bit of research, here are some common themes that I discovered:

TOO MUCH LIGHT CAN AFFECT YOUR SLEEP

You need to sleep in a dark room or wear a sleep mask. There are so many gorgeous silk sleep masks now that help improve your sleep and also feel luxurious on your skin. Check out this yummy one from SLIP.

TECHNOLOGY CAN IMPACT THE QUALITY OF YOUR SLEEP

Say g’night to all tech tools (phones, tv, computer screens) and turn down the lights at least an hour before bedtime. The light artificially tells your body and mind that it’s still daytime and delays sleep.

MAKE USE OF SLEEP TRACKING TOOLS

There are so many sleep tracking and enhancement tools these days. Information is power. These tools not only can track your sleep (length of time asleep, quality of sleep, REM time), but they can offer insights to help you adjust your lifestyle and sleep better. The Oura Ring seems to be hot, hot, hot. I might need to try one.

If you want to go even deeper on this topic, check out these seven sleep hacks by Dave Asprey. He’s spent decades studying the health benefits of sleep. Beauty starts from the inside out, and a healthy sleep life means a healthy life from morning until night.  🖤
